Welcome to my website of insight.

I am an ordained Kahuna. Ka whata?, you know, like the “Big Kahuna”? Okay, if you are younger than a certain age you will probably not remember the surfer dude from Hawaii who acquired that moniker.

Versed in the spirituality of ancient Hawaii, known as Ho’ala Huna, as well as my own unique take on the energy of things, I call Energy Discernment, what I offer is a perspective that will hopefully illuminate many of the issues we all deal with in our hectic modern life with empowering Clarity. With Clarity comes power you didn’t know you had, power to change and bring into balance all aspects of your life and the power to see with fresh eyes, what is Real, and what is not. Belief is not required.

Who are you, Kahuna Karie?

I grew up in Norfolk, Virginia during the 60’s and 70’s in a typically dysfunctional home to a good-looking, talented, sexist, racist father and a beautiful, naïve Midwesterner mother. “Bussing” started in my area at the time I started high school and my sister and I found ourselves in a strict fundamentalist southern Baptist private K-12. As Methodists, the weekly “fire and brimstone” altar call was a bit of a shock but sis and I answered that first call, shaking and weeping.

When I told my mother about the “dysfunction” that nobody talked about then, she did her best to remove us from the offender in the home but he would always find us. Escape really came when we grew up, married early and left. For me that happened when I left to go to Florida Keys Community College. With a new husband and new life a whole other world opened up for me. I studied marine science but also learned a lot about hypnosis from my hypnotist Biology professor. (It was pretty cool at 19 in college being hypnotized by a master hypnotist!)

Two years and an Associate of Science degree later I went back to Virginia and by shear synchronicity, connected with an ex-Baptist preacher who curiously had something to do with hypnosis, the first two major influences in my life, Christian fundamentalism and hypnosis of all things, combined in one person. Paul Solomon became my first real spiritual teacher and he and his little church, The Fellowship of the Inner Light, paved the way for a recognition of the difference between religion and spirituality. From Paul and the people there, I learned of a deeper reverence for the Christian faith by people who had ironically, moved past the traditional surface level doctrine and dogma to a direct personal relationship with God and Christ.

After many years, another husband, and many more books, teachers and workshops later I met Lani and Lono Ho’ala, ordained Kahuna Kapua of the order of Kane, high priests of Ho’ala Huna. I very deeply resonated with the ancient tribal wisdom and ritual they taught. The next five years of Ohana meetings and trainings ushered in the discovery of my life’s purpose: to share Wisdom and Principles of Consciousness.

Applying the Principles to bring my life into Balance precipitated my leaving a 23 year marriage and I learned experientially just how powerful the Reality-based Principles can be. I have since distilled my life experiences into a world view that has answers, makes sense and provides a rule-of-thumb metric for gauging the discernment of…pretty much everything. Clarity.

And now I am here to serve you. Because when you Wake Up, there is another whole dimension of Reality to discover!

Twice a month I will submit a new article about relevant issues we all face; from personal challenges: finding Peace in the midst of dysfunctional relationships, finding Healing in the midst of addiction, finding Courage in the midst of big changes; to global: finding the Truth in the midst of confusion, finding that which is Life-Giving in the midst of chaos and death, finding Compassion in the midst of unconscious hatefulness.

With the black and white contrast of Clarity, you will soon see for yourself the difference between Reality and the illusion; what’s Real and what’s not. You will behold the Veil, and the dimensions beyond it. You can lucid dream your reality. In the movie, Matrix, Neo knew the difference between the red pill and the blue pill. He realized his Choice. That’s what I hope to do for you with this blog: help you see with Powerful Clarity what your Real Choices are.

While Waking Up can be uplifting and inspiring, it can also be messy and disconcerting. Confusion is a natural prelude to Clarity, I invite your input, questions and comments. This is a place where the more we let it all hang out, the more Contrast we will have to work with. And Contrast is the best friend of Clarity.
